Krakatindur track is a challenging, unserviced dirt route winding through the remote northern part of Fjallabak nature reserve, leading toward the isolated mountain Krakatindur near Hekla. Though free of river crossings, the road is rough, narrow, and filled with deep potholes, demanding both caution and experience.
Only large 4×4 vehicles with high ground clearance—ideally a super jeep—are suitable for this route. Krakatindur is not classified as an F-road, meaning it's even rougher than standard highland roads and often not covered by rental insurance.
