The Hungurfit track is an exceptionally remote and scenic mountain route connecting F261 to F210 through the wild Fjallabak highlands, passing by the Hungurfit and Króksskáli huts. Known for its rugged beauty and demanding terrain, it offers a blend of steep climbs, narrow paths, river crossings, deep potholes, and rocky stretches—making it one of Iceland's most adventurous tracks.
Several small to medium river fords appear along the way, including one potentially deep and fast-flowing crossing near Hungurfit hut, requiring careful judgment and proper driving experience. This is not an F-road but a true mountain track—only suitable for highly experienced drivers with large 4×4 vehicles or super jeeps. Insurance rarely covers this type of road, so check with your rental provider before attempting it.
