Jökuldalsvegur is a semi-paved mountain road connecting Route 923 with F907, running alongside the full stretch of the impressive Stuðlagil Canyon. While not classified as an F-road, it’s a rough and aged route typical of Iceland’s remote areas.
There are no river crossings along Jökuldalsvegur, and during summer, it’s passable with a 2WD vehicle, making it suitable for visitors heading only to Stuðlagil. However, if your journey includes connecting highland roads like F907 towards Askja, a medium to large 4×4 is strongly recommended.
