- Where it is: South of Lake Langisjór, at the base of Sveinstindur peak (1,089 m), in the heart of the Fjallabak Nyrðri region. The hut is a short grassy walk north along the Skaftá River.
- How to get there: Drive on F208, turning east onto F235 toward Langisjór, then onto a marked 4×4 track down to the hut. The last ~1 km follows the riverbank on rugged terrain.
- Vehicle requirements: Only high-clearance 4×4 vehicles should attempt this route. Early summer brings quicksand patches along the trail.
Facilities & Setup
Sveinstindur offers a minimal yet welcoming base within wilderness:
- Sleeps up to 18 people in a restored stone hut, heated by a small oil stove.
- Equipped with a gas cooktop, kitchen utensils, and running cold water during the open season.
- Flush toilet available in a separate nearby structure; no showers or Wi‑Fi.
- Camping permitted near the hut on gravel/mossy ground. Space is informal, unreserved, and first-come.
