Updates:

1. Geirsnef – Dog Disneyland

This place? WOOF! It’s the ultimate off-leash playground. Big open spaces, tons of new smells, dog obstacle course and a river to splash in if you're brave or just very muddy like me. Everyone’s off-leash here, which means maximum zoomies and lots of bum-sniffing introductions.

2. Heiðmörk – Forest of a Thousand Smells

Only 15 minutes in the car and you’re in nature’s playground. Leash stays on (bummer), but it’s worth it—lava fields, piney woods, bird chirps, and so many trails. The humans love taking photos of trees; I prefer sniffing under them.

But you know what’s even better? Barbecue spots! Yep, loads of them scattered around the area.

So here's my plan: we go for a long walk, and then we stop for a barbecue break. My human can grill something tasty… and maybe, just maybe, drop a little snack for me. A juicy sausage, a corner of that burger—accidents happen, right?

Honestly, Heiðmörk is perfect for both of us—fresh air, pretty views, and food. What more could a pup ask for? Bring snacks. And poop bags. Always poop bags.

3. Paradísardalur & Lake Rauðavatn - Lupin Paradise

East side beauty! You gotta stay leashed by the lake because of the feathery creatures nesting nearby (don’t chase them—trust me, it gets loud). But the surrounding woods? Heaven. Go during the lupin bloom and it’s like walking through a purple dream. The humans get all mushy and say things like “wow, magical.” I just smell foxes.

4. Bali Dog Park, Álftanes – Beach Side

FREEEEEDOM! It’s got grass, rocks, lava rocks and—wait for it—beach access! Sand under my paws, sea breeze in my floof, and other dogs to run with. It’s the perfect place to let loose and dig a hole or five. Just don’t eat the seaweed (I learned the hard way).

5. Úlfarsfell – Mountain with a View

Ready to work those paws? Úlfarsfell is a hike, but oh boy—it’s so worth it. Panoramic views, cool breezes, and trails that make my shepherd instincts kick in. I recommend keeping your leash on; it gets rocky and you might spot a bird or bunny you’re not allowed to chase (again, humans ruin everything). Pack water and snacks—climbing makes you hungry!

6. Breiðholt Trails & Kermóafoss – The Hidden Gem

Less touristy, more snifftastic. It’s got winding forest paths, quiet spots to pee in peace, and Kermóafoss—a cute hidden waterfall. You need to be leashed, but it’s worth it for the chill vibes. Great for calm walks or when your human needs “fresh air” (aka you barked too much indoors again).

Gamma’s Tail Tips:

  • Respect the leash zones (even if it kills your vibe—some birds are grumpy).
  • Pack water—Iceland air is fresh but dry.
  • Always poop responsibly—nobody likes a messy trail.
  • Bring a towel—because I will find a puddle.

So, there you have it—my ultimate dog-approved, tail-wag-tested guide to Reykjavík. Whether you’re chasing balls, scents, or adventures, there’s something here for every pup. Now go nudge your human and get those paws moving!

Tail wags,
