Nauthólsvík Geothermal Beach is a unique seaside retreat in Reykjavík, offering a blend of natural beauty and geothermal relaxation. Located just a short distance from the city center, this man-made beach provides an exceptional experience for both locals and visitors.

A Unique Geothermal Experience

Unlike typical Icelandic beaches, Nauthólsvík features imported golden sand and a man-made lagoon filled with a mix of seawater and geothermal water. During the summer months, the lagoon's temperature averages between 15°C and 19°C, making it suitable for swimming. In addition to the lagoon, visitors can enjoy on-site geothermal hot tub and a steam bath, providing a warm respite even during cooler days.

Nauthólsvík is more than just a beach; it's a hub for various recreational activities:

  • Swimming and Sunbathing: Relax on the golden sands or take a dip in the warm lagoon.

Opening Hours and Admission

Summer Season (May 15 – August 18):

  • Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Admission: Free access to pools, hot tubs, bathrooms, and changing rooms.

Winter Season (August 19 – May 14):

  • Opening Hours:
    • Tuesday to Friday: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
    • Saturday: 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
    • Closed on Mondays and Sundays
  • Admission:
    • Adults: 650 ISK
    • Towel Rental: 600 ISK
    • Swimwear Rental: 850 ISK

Getting There

Nauthólsvík is conveniently located near Reykjavík Domestic Airport and the University of Reykjavík. It's approximately a 5-minute drive from the city center. Public transportation options include Bus Nr. 5, which stops at Nauthóll – HR, a short walk from the beach.
