Möðrudalsleið is a semi-paved gravel road acting as the gateway from the Ring Road to the highland F-roads leading to Askja, such as F905 and F907. While relatively smooth compared to rougher F-roads, it still features loose gravel and occasional potholes requiring cautious driving.
There are no river crossings on Möðrudalsleið, and it is generally safe for any car during summer—though vehicles with low ground clearance should drive slowly to avoid damage. If you're continuing toward Askja, a medium 4×4 vehicle is essential.
