Hlaðir, Hvalfjarðarströnd Campsite

Hlaðir Campsite is a seasonal campground on Hvalfjarðarströnd in West Iceland, situated near the War and Peace Museum and the small community area in Hlaðir, about 40 minutes’ drive from Reykjavík and 20 minutes from Akranes. It offers a quiet, scenic setting by the fjord for tents, camper vans, and caravans.

Facilities

The campsite provides a range of basic to good services for a comfortable stay during the summer season (typically June 1 – August 26):

• Toilets and showers, with hot and cold water available.
• Electricity hookups at many pitches.
• Playground and outdoor barbecue areas for cooking and relaxing.
• Waste disposal for portable toilets and other camper needs.
• Hot tubs and swimming pool adjacent to the site for extra relaxation.

Location & Surroundings

Located along the shore of Hvalfjörður, the site offers views of the fjord and surrounding hills, and is close to local services such as a small swimming pool complex with hot pots and slides at Hlaðir.  It’s also adjacent to the War and Peace Museum, which explores Iceland’s history during WWII and makes an interesting short visit.

Hlaðir Campsite is open during the Icelandic summer months and provides a peaceful, scenic base within easy reach of Reykjavík while still surrounded by natural beauty and history.
