F223 branches off from the southern part of F208 (Fjallabaksleið Nyrðri) and leads into the dramatic Eldgjá volcanic canyon. About halfway along the road, there is a small parking area where a marked trail begins to the Ófærufoss waterfall—one of Iceland’s most stunning hidden gems. This spot marks the permanent end of the vehicle-accessible road; beyond this point, accessible only on foot.
